Sales Engineer

Job Description:

Under the direction of, and reporting to the Director of Custom Products Division, this position will be responsible for selling custom products. Responsible for the entire sales cycle from lead generation to contract closure.

· Generate new sales leads through referrals from material and equipment suppliers, advertising, trade shows, cold calls and call-ins.

· Identify most effective lead generation methods and exploit methods.

· Determine customer requirements for products and services using a solution/consultative sales approach.

· Collaborate with Applications Engineering personnel in preparing and presenting estimates and proposals.

· Gain customer commitments to secure new business.

· Prepare and present to Director of Custom Products Division on-going recommendations for new or enhanced compatible products and services.

· Provide support to customers, Engineering and Manufacturing throughout the project cycle (i.e. pricing information, problem solving, standards, estimating, billings, payment, adjustments, installations, etc.).

· May be responsible for developing and maintaining independent representatives for assigned geographic sales territories.

· Works closely with Engineering, Application Engineering and Manufacturing personnel.

· Multiple one-on-one, in-person contacts with technical oriented customers and purchasing department personnel.

· Attend trade shows and essential meetings with customers to promote and communicate the company’s brand.

· May recruit and supervise the Company’s manufacturing representative in assigned geographic sales territories.

· Attend “kick-off” meeting with the project team to discuss project requirements highlighting critical design features, high risk areas, and/or areas of concern. Generate list of questions and/or missing information required to complete the design and manufacturing of the equipment.

· Develop working relationships with manufacturing department to address and resolve issues to produce the highest quality products at the lowest possible cost.

· Act as technical resource for Applications, Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance and Field Service assisting in addressing questions and resolving issues.

· Knowledgeable of heating, cooling and cleaning processes.

· Must have understanding of the equipment for these processes including oven, furnace, cooling and washer/cleaning design requirements.

· Participate on cross-functional teams to address and resolve manufacturing, design and quality problems and ensure the continuous, on-going improvement of processes and methods.

· Remain technically competent and keep current in new developments within the industry.

· Follow, comply, and enforce all safety and work related rules, regulations and policies. Make recommendations regarding safe working methods.

· Promptly respond to inquiries to support individual, team and company success.

· Responsible for facility cleanliness and maintain departmental housekeeping standards.

· Perform various duties as requested by management.

Essential Job Requirements

· Physical Requirements: Must be capable of long durations of sitting or standing while working. Ability to perform light lifting, as necessary. Must be willing and able to visit customers.

· Driving Requirements: Must maintain a valid state driver’s license, have access to reliable transportation and carry the state minimum required auto insurance. Required to travel approximately 40% based on number of active projects. Must maintain an up to date passport.

· Customer Service and Communication: Must maintain an approachable demeaner at all times. Deliver pleasant, responsive interactions with customers (internal and external) and time-sensitive responses to all inquiries and requests. Focus on clear, concise communication to clients, vendors, and peers. Professional, positive and timely communication, both verbally and in writing is crucial to this role.

· Focus and Direction: Accepting of interruptions and able to re-focus and stay on task. Must be able to take direction as well as instill a proactive, self-directed approach to ensure daily requirements are fulfilled. Must be able to handle multiple tasks at the same time and know how to prioritize in order of importance and meet overlapping deadlines without substituting quality or accuracy.

· Analytical Aptitude: The ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents such as blueprints, schematics, contracts, customer and industry specifications, warranties, company standards, operating and maintenance instructions, routings, work orders, engineering drawings, policy manuals, safety rules and regulations and procedure manuals.

· Technology: Proficient with basic software and smartphone technology including email, internet and calendaring applications and able to functionally use emerging technologies to support business needs. Understanding of controllers and drives including PLC and HMI’s. Ability to operate a variety of small hand and power tools, the ability to operate electronic testing equipment.

· Hours and Work Environment: Individual must meet or exceed job requirements and company expectations. Must be able to work a minimum of 40 hours per week with the ability to work overtime as necessary.

· Must have sales industry knowledge and a general understanding of budgets.

· Must have general understanding of service sales process including quoting service sales, margins and revenues and managing customer contract accounts.

· Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as dimensions, tolerances, proportions and percentages.

· Ability to independently resolve issues/problems with good judgment.

· Ability to listen attentively, ask questions ensuring clear expectations, follow directions and provide prompt continuous follow-up.

Education and Experience

· Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering. Minimum 7 years of sales engineering experience with specific experience in the custom product markets or a combination both education and experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $80,000.00 per year
